Playful Family Portrait Session

Would you like to spend quality time with your family and have amazing portraits too?

This is *the* Family Photography Session for AUTHENTIC moments of your real life and memories

Playful Backyard Family Photography Session in Mountain View, CA. We met at the family’s home, and I found a few lovely spots in the backyard to take portraits. I would consider this more of a traditional portrait as they are all looking at the camera. And if you’re up for it, I do recommend at least one or two of these.

This was a fun, playful moment captured at the family portrait session in their backyard in Mountain View. I asked the parents to play a simple little game that the kids loved. I love capturing real smiles like these.

You know all those fun, playful family moments in between your family portraits? That’s what my playful family photography sessions capture and so much more.

It’s as low key as a home hang out together in the backyard. It’s playing ball in the backyard, tending to the garden, or having a picnic and play. It’s spending time inside together with a board game or chasing kiddos around the house in a game of hide and seek. Or even snuggle time and a fun little game of peek-a-boo. We’ll brainstorm your family’s favorite things to do together and come up with a plan to capture them!

These are NOT exactly traditional family portraits, but they capture amazing, genuine family moments. And I’m always happy to do a few posed portraits for you at the start or end of our session.

Portraits of your Family Time together

These playful moments between mother and son were actually captured outside at a busy neighborhood Cuesta Park in Mountain View. They had so much fun. She would push and reach for him, and he just thought it was the most fun thing ever.

I saw this moment when she was hurt, and dad scooped her up to make it all better. This was also at busy Cuesta Park, but you can’t really tell. With a playful session, you stay in the moment with your children, and we get to document these beautiful real moments of connection.

This is also THE EASIEST session for reluctant picture takers

For anyone who is camera shy or just feels awkward staring into the camera at someone you don’t quite know yet. For these sessions, you can ignore me. You really don’t need to pose, talk to me, chit chat, or ever look at the camera. You get to enjoy your family!

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory

Boys playing with water in backyard family documentary photography session in Mountain View

These brothers had fun playing in the backyard together. They had a baby pool of water on a hot summer day. Their parents let them splash each other, and they had so much fun! You can almost hear the joy.

This little boy just loves his mama so. They were spending time together in the backyard and I saw this sweet moment where he reached for her hand.

Playful Ideas for Families

  • Play time at the park and play ground - playground sessions are beautiful, relaxed, and so fun

  • A family day trip around town to get ice cream - we’ll check in with the ice cream shop and make sure they’re on board

  • Play time with grandparents - spend time as a whole family together

  • Sibling play time only - if you think your kids would enjoy this but you’d prefer not to, that’s always an option as well.

  • Just Mom and me, or Dad and me

  • Just design me a session and tell us what to do! I’m happy to do this as well and bring the ideas

I love capturing creative, artistic moments like these! They’re beyond your typical family portrait session, but I feel like they belong in your family photo album. They’ll bring you back to those moments. This was actually taken of my daughter during summer time. And it reminds me of when she was so little and carefree, just soaking in the summer time!
